How to use Summalo
From price tag to final price in a few taps.
1. Choose where you shop
Tap the place at the top left. Pick a popular city, search for a state, or tap Use my location. In some states you can also enter the ZIP code and the local tax rate. The tax depends on where the store is, not where you live.
2. Scan the tag
Hold the price tag in view. The prices Summalo finds appear below the camera, and the green one is the best guess. Tap the right price, or tap a price right on the tag in the camera view. No camera? Use Photo to read a picture, or Type price.
3. Enter the sale
Choose the sale in 5 percent steps (5 to 90), or tap Other for your own value. Pick the item type: clothing and shoes can follow special rules, accessories and sports gear are usually taxed normally.
4. Read the final price
The big number is about what you pay. Below it you see the tag price, the sale, the subtotal and the tax. A green note appears when a clothing rule lowers the tax. Tap Why this tax? for the explanation.
5. Two prices on one tag?
Many US tags show a suggested retail price and the store's own price (Our Price). Summalo starts from the store's price. If it picks the wrong one, tap the right price under Not the right price?.
6. Teach Summalo
Tap the graduation cap to turn on learning mode. After you choose a price, confirm the brand. Summalo remembers where that brand puts the price on its tags and finds it faster next time. It remembers only the position, never the photo or the text.
7. Save items
Tap Save to keep an item in History (clock icon). It shows the final prices and the total of everything you saved.
8. Settings and privacy
In Settings (gear) you can turn learning mode on or off, delete learned layouts, and decide whether Summalo may share anonymous facts. Sharing is off until you switch it on.
Tips
Hold the phone steady and close to the tag, and avoid glare. The result is an estimate: the register has the last word.
